(Sheila Renee Parker. Author. Artist. Empath.)

Bring it on, 2018… We’ve got this!!!

Wow, can you believe it?! 2018 is almost here!! I mean seriously, where did the time go? So much has happened in 2017! In September, I had the opportunity to attend the 2017 Gulf Coast ParaCon that was hosted by SPARS Paranormal in Biloxi, Mississippi, located at the beautiful Beauvoir. In November, I attended The Paranormal Diaries Film: EVENT in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, at the historical Palmer House Hotel. At both events I met lots of great people that I now consider very dear friends, and even took part in conducting paranormal investigations at both places. Plus, by being at both places, I learned so much more paranormally, historically and also many things on a personal level as far as exploring my very own gifts of being an empath and being able to communicate with the angelic realm. I’ve continued to grow from my experiences and feel even more enlightened on my life’s daily journey.

In the upcoming year of 2018 lots of exciting plans are in the works! I’ve been invited to join some more paranormal investigations that I’m really looking forward to! And I’ve also been invited back as a guest on a radio show in the very near future. Will happily keep you all posted! Not to mention, more exciting interviews with some pretty awesome guests that I can’t wait to publish for everyone to read! Also, many people have been asking about my next book, the sequel to The Spirit Within (The Spirit Within is available on Amazon!). This next book has been an exciting work in progress! I’m extremely thrilled with how the story line is being created…. lots more paranormal twists and steamy romance!

And, my art has really been taking off with buyers purchasing prints of my work (available at https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/sheilarenee-parker.html ). So, definitely phenomenal things are happening!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday with plans of a fabulous New Year ahead! I would love to hear from you and what you have planned for 2018!

From my heart to yours, a big “THANK YOU!” to each and every one of you for your support! I love you all dearly!!

Much Love & Light ~ Sheila 🙂

The Palmer House Hotel

Located in the small city of Sauk Centre, Minnesota stands The Palmer House Hotel. Built in 1901 by Ralph L. Palmer and Christena J. Palmer, this historical landmark is enchanting with all its grandeur, warmth and charm. The hotel is well-known for its paranormal activity with reports dating back throughout the decades.

Aside from the ghostly residents, The Palmer House Hotel is full of rich history. As soon as an individual enters the front door facing Sinclair Lewis Avenue, it’s as if one is taken back in time. The feeling of yesteryear is quickly felt, aided along with respectfully displayed photographs hung upon the walls throughout the building, still constructed with original materials.

In the lobby, close to the base of the stairway, is a beautiful display case. Inside is a very elegant dress worn by original owner, Mrs. Christena J. Palmer. I was in such awe at the sight.

A couple of weeks ago I traveled from the Gulf Coast in Alabama to The Palmer House Hotel to attend The Paranormal Diaries Film: EVENT hosted by my friend, Blaine Duncan and his brother, Austin in honor of their exciting upcoming film, The Paranormal Diaries: A Documentary Film. The event lasted from November 10th – 12th. The entire weekend was full of fascinating presentations. The fun-filled activities were non-stop! Blaine and Austin shared with everyone their background in regards to the paranormal. They also talked about the many awesome locations they visited (including The Palmer House Hotel) while filming and promised to give details upon the film’s release!

Healer and Intuitive, Suzanne Worthley hosted two presentations about Angels, chakras, the difference between spirits and earthbound ghosts and so much more! Hearing her speak literally helped open my mind to an even higher level of understanding.

Psychic Medium, Tiffany Johnson was also there conducting readings. I asked her about my father who had passed away a little more than seven years ago. All I did was ask how he was doing and then Tiffany began to tell me things that I hadn’t discussed publicly before, personal things about my father. I could feel my father’s presence as Tiffany was relaying his messages. Tears began to well my eyes, some were happy and yet some were sad because I still miss him so much. Tiffany Johnson’s psychic gift is true and sincere, and I am extremely grateful for the reading she gave me.

Members of the Twin Cities Paranormal Society team were at the event as well talking about their team’s background history, the use of paranormal equipment and they even shared evidence that was captured on previous investigations. Their evidence was intriguing and some were even intense and frightening evps (electronic voice phenomenon).

And as both nights were winding down, Friday and Saturday, everyone gathered together to conduct paranormal investigations of The Palmer House Hotel. I, along with others, witnessed some flashlight responses when questions were being asked and flickering from light fixtures. Was I frightened? Absolutely not. Not once did I feel anything malevolent or terrifying. However, I must be honest, I did find myself becoming extremely captivated by this exquisite hotel. There was an undeniable sense of “home”, like I had been there before in the past. To those who had experienced the very same feeling, affectionately referred to it as “The Palmer House Effect”. The hotel’s current owner, Kelley and her staff were beyond amazing with their professionalism and yet personable ways! From the very first moment of my arrival to the last moment when I turned in my hotel key, everyone made me feel extremely welcomed!

Even though it has been a couple of weeks since The Paranormal Diaries Film: EVENT, I still feel drawn to the location. It’s something that I will continue to carry with me always!

Interview with Filmmaker, Blaine Duncan

Today I’m welcoming back filmmaker, Blaine Duncan as he discusses his upcoming film, The Paranormal Diaries: A Documentary Film and his exciting event, The Paranormal Diaries Film: EVENT. Thank you, Blaine for stopping by!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m a pretty simple guy with a love and passion for paranormal investigating. I grew up in a haunted house and the idea behind figuring out what it is that goes bump in the night has always been intriguing to me. I was always that kid who laid under my bed covers at night reading scary ghost stories, trying to pretend to be brave and then freaking myself out. As I got older I started experimenting with the paranormal and ghost hunting a little bit more. I began sneaking out and going to graveyards or local spots that were reported to be haunted. I did this kind of thing by myself for a really long time, which obviously isn’t something that should be done for many reasons, but I always felt like working in a small, intimate group of only a few people, or by myself, was the best way to really confirm what you were seeing or hearing wasn’t being caused by human interference.

Your upcoming film is titled, The Paranormal Diaries: A Documentary Film. Tell us about that and what was the inspiration behind its creation?

The film was actually an idea that I had back in 2009 or 2010. Life circumstances at that time, or maybe just where I was at in my life, didn’t allow for me to go out and really pursue shooting a documentary like I hoped. Fast forward to January of 2016 and I finally said, enough is enough, I need to make this film. I have to do it, because it really is something that I need to get out of my system. I needed to check that box so-to-speak. So in May, along with my brother Austin, we packed up our camera equipment and ghost hunting gear for what turned out to be a two month road trip, traveling around the country, driving the back roads of America in hopes of finding some unknown haunted hotspots. And that’s exactly what we did. We really wanted to do something different that no one else has done and incorporate the road trip idea or theme into what the film truly is. There’s sort of this parallel between us traveling down the road and traveling in our own personal journey to document proof of the paranormal.

In honor of your film, you have a special event scheduled in November. Share with everyone all the exciting details about The Paranormal Diaries Film: EVENT.

Yes! I’m really excited about this. It’s been a lot of work in the making to do this event, but I wanted to go back to many of the places that we filmed at and present part of the film. I always had this idea of how cool would it be to show a documentary film about a haunted location while actually watching it in a haunted location? Though we won’t be showing the entire film and only clips from our time on the road, it’s still my hope some day to do that. The event is going to be great though. We’re having some guest speakers including Angela and Brady from Twin Cities Paranormal Society who I have so much respect for and the work that they’ve done. Psychic Tiffany Johnson will be there to do her psychic gallery in the basement of The Palmer House, which is going to be super cool. And then we have Suzanne Worthley who I can’t say enough great things about! She’s just awesome. It’s going to be a great event with non-stop activities going on throughout the weekend. We’re going to finish the weekend off by having a ghost hunt throughout the entire building on Saturday night. What people don’t realize is that most of the hotel is going to be ours to wander and investigate, which is something that isn’t easy to come by. Many times there are only certain areas that you can get into or certain areas that are off limits, but for the most part, almost the entire hotel will be available to investigate. It’s going to be fun!

Why did you choose The Palmer House Hotel in Sauk Centre, Minnesota as the event’s location? And what’s the history behind this haunted hotel?

I chose The Palmer House because it was actually the first location that we investigated in 2016 when we hit the road. It was a place that I had been to before filming there and a place that I just really love. It’s incredibly haunted and I’ve had some really fun, crazy, experiences there. Many people actually believe that The Palmer House sits on some sort of portal and spirits come and go from the building constantly. There’s everything from full-body apparitions seen there, including ghost dogs and cats, cold spots, sounds of children playing throughout the building, items that move about on their own, really you name it. It’s just an amazing place and the owner, Kelley, has just been amazing to us. The event proceeds are actually 100% going back to the hotel, we’re not making a dime from doing this. As a way to thank Kelley for allowing us to film there and a way for her to know how much we appreciate her and her beautiful building, we decided we wanted to give the money back to her for restoration projects. Hopefully we can do more in the future and maybe even screen the whole film there one day!

Have you experienced anything paranormal at this beautiful, historic site?

I have! I always tell people that if you want to dip your toes into the world of the paranormal, The Palmer House is the place to do it. I’ve never picked up on anything negative or dark there, so I don’t think of it as a “scary” haunted place. It’s for sure haunted though! As a matter of fact, it’s been voted the most haunted place in Minnesota and one of the top ten most haunted hotels in the country. What will be fun is for those people who are staying the full weekend, I believe they will be most likely to have an experience. It seems like the building and it’s spirits get used to you and they seem to want to interact more the longer you stay. I can’t wait to get back and I hope to have my own experiences when I’m up there again!

Where can people go to purchase tickets for The Paranormal Diaries Film: EVENT?

To purchase tickets for the event, go to our Facebook page by searching The Paranormal Diaries: A Documentary Film on Facebook, and we have a link on our page to the event. If you follow the event link you will see how to purchase tickets through PayPal. And then once you have your ticket for the event, give The Palmer House a call and book your room for the whole weekend. The owner has been kind enough to include Thursday night free for anyone who stays Friday and Saturday.

What’s next for Blaine Duncan?

I always have all kinds of ideas running through my head! I have a couple ideas for my next film project that I would like to do and I may stray slightly from the paranormal field with the second film. It would still be focused on something quite dark and scary, more in the sense of monsters, myths and lore throughout America. I’ve also been interested in doing some writing as well, so who knows, maybe I’ll put pen to paper and start jotting some stories down some time.

Any positive words of advice?

Don’t get caught up in some of the negativity that runs wild through the paranormal community. It’s sad that everyone can’t get along, but for the betterment of the paranormal field, I think people need to present a united front so that the scientific community will start to take this subject more seriously. I hope one day we can get there.

Interview with Blaine Duncan

Today I’m welcoming Blaine Duncan, director of the upcoming film, The Paranormal Diaries: A Documentary Film. Thank you, Blaine for stopping by!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I grew up in a very small, rural community about 45 minutes west of Minneapolis, Minnesota where I lived with my family. This is a small town that’s filled with a few farms, a bar, a church, a small Catholic school and not much more. It’s very much your typical small, Midwest community that you see in the movies and on TV. The house I grew up in always had some strange things going on inside of it. Things would disappear. Lights would turn on and off by themselves. There would even appear this strange smell of cigarette smoke that would fill the air out of nowhere. And this wasn’t like a cigarette that you would smell out at the bar on a Saturday night, this was the smell of distinct, old tobacco. My brother Austin, who is actually out filming with me this summer, had an incredibly scary experience when he was only four or five years old that involved a door slamming shut and a disembodied voice telling him to “be quiet”. So there were some really scary things that were happening all around me and to family living there. As a kid, even from a small age, I was very interested in the paranormal. So interested in fact that the only paranormal book that was in my school’s library was removed from school because some of the nuns felt that I was reading it too much. Pretty funny stuff. But as the only person in my family at the time who was into the paranormal, and even the only one who believed in the paranormal to a degree, nothing ever happened to me outside of smelling the old cigarette smoke. I wanted to interact with whatever was there so bad that I went as far as playing with the ouija board by myself, but again, nothing ever came of it. It was like whatever was there knew I was onto it and it wanted to stay clear of me. So then fast forward 20 or so years and here I am now, still interested in the paranormal. I’ve since then had several paranormal experiences myself at other locations and finally had that moment where I could no longer question whether or not the paranormal was real. I became very interested in filmmaking growing up which has led me to the point I’m at now shooting my own film documenting the paranormal. In a way I kind of feel like whatever it was that avoided me as a kid in my own home has driven me to want to discover the paranormal in every corner of the world.

You’re currently working on the film titled, The Paranormal Diaries: A Documentary Film. What is your film about?

The Paranormal Diaries: A Documentary Film is exactly what the title describes it as, and that’s a video diary about my road trip across America in search of some of the most haunted locations I can find. The idea for the film started back in 2009 or 2010 when I decided I wanted to create my own film on the subject. I’d always been into the paranormal and I really began to develop a love for independent filmmaking. So it took me from 2009 up until this point to really play around with the idea and get everything in line exactly the way I wanted, and I’m finally at the point now where I’ve gathered my equipment and have taken the steps needed to turn this idea into reality. We’re really hitting the back roads of America and finding these unknown locations that most people have never heard of when it comes to paranormal investigating. When we think about the paranormal we automatically think about places like Amityville and The Stanley Hotel, but what people have to realize is that there are just as active of locations as Amityville and the Stanley out there, they’re just completely undiscovered yet. So by us grabbing our film equipment and hitting the road, we’re stopping at any location we can come across, sometimes in these small, rural towns that are barely a blip on the radar. You’d be really surprised at the amount of places that we have stopped at where people will gladly point to a creepy house on the corner in town and say, “go talk to them about their house”. And then we do and find all kinds of crazy things are going on there, but it’s been so hush-hush in the community that no one has ever investigated it. So we’re really excited to have the opportunity to be the first ones into a lot of these places. We’ve had some really positive experiences so far and we’ve also collected some really great evidence along the way.

What has been the driving force behind creating such a production?

My driving force is, and always will be, my passion for the subject of the paranormal and filmmaking. In my opinion when a spirit gives me a really great EVP or a really great visual piece of evidence, the best thing I can do is to present that to the world. I mean when you sit back and think about it, how cool is it that we are actually communicating with people that are no longer living? It’s sad that they’re no longer living, sure, but that is just the unfortunate truth about life. But if I’m given undeniable proof of the existence of the paranormal, I believe it’s my job to pass that along and show that to the world. So my driving force will always be my love for this subject, my passion for filmmaking and of course my desire to present the best possible evidence to the world.

What are your views regarding the ghostly realm?

That’s a really great question and I think it’s such a deep and intense question that I don’t know that I can truly answer it entirely for you. There’s no doubt in my mind life after death. We all know that we’re made up of energy. It’s a scientific fact. And it’s also a scientific fact that you can’t destroy energy. So where does that energy go once we die? That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I believe there are probably spirits around us in many places throughout our lives, but we just don’t have the ability to interact with them. I believe there is such a thing as residual ghost activity and that some of the spirits that still walk this planet may not realize that they’re even dead. This could be in many cases those spirits who lost their life suddenly like in a car accident or a murder, something along those lines. But then I think there are other times when spirits are fully well aware that they are no longer alive and they are here for one reason or another. Maybe unfinished business, who knows? Maybe they feel such a strong desire to watch over their loved ones that they can’t pass over. I look at the steps that have been taken scientifically over the last two decades in regards to documenting paranormal activity, and the leaps and bounds we’ve taken to document proof of the afterlife. I truly believe we are on the cusp of revealing to world the most scientific research that proves ghosts are real. And I also believe my film will support that.

When will The Paranormal Diaries: A Documentary Film be released for all to see?

We are out filming right now, this summer, across the country. We should wrap up filming in late August and will take the fall and winter to edit and focus on marketing. Hopefully by early spring we can start a few screenings and feel out how receptive people are to it, make any changes that are needed and then have the official release date be sometime next summer. I’ve been telling people August of 2017 is what we’re aiming for, but that also gives us a little wiggle room in there for any unpredicted roadblocks. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you see it before then.

You’ve recently launched an Indiegogo page. Share with us where people can find your Indiegogo page so they can help take your project to the next level.

Yes! I launched an Indiegogo campaign a few weeks back to help support the film financially. For those who are not familiar with Indiegogo or crowdfunding in general, it’s really become the new way to get a lot of projects completed on the independent circuit. Initially when I first began filming, this was going to be 100% out of pocket and I didn’t want to rely on anyone else to fund the film. Well, a few weeks out on the road made me realize that in order to accomplish what I want to get done in a timely manner, there is really no way I can continue at my current pace to support the film entirely by myself. So I started my Indiegogo campaign and am trying to raise $15,000 for the film. This will cover travel expenses, filming costs, equipment costs, those kinds of things. For anyone who knows anything about independent filmmaking, $15,000 is really not a lot of money. In some locations we’re going to film at, they want over $1,000 just to film there. So any little money that people are willing to give would greatly be appreciated. If you go to http://www.indiegogo.com and type in The Paranormal Diaries, our page will pop up and you can read through it. And people should also know that with each donation you give you can get different perks ranging from a signed promotional card all the way up to credited as an associate producer in the film, which you’ll actually be allowed to partake in conversations down the road and make some production decisions with the rest of the team. I keep saying that this film is being done by paranormal enthusiasts, for paranormal enthusiasts, so for anyone who is interested in donating to the film, I promise you that you’ll get every dime of your money back with the finished product.

Where can paranormal enthusiasts get updates about this exciting film?

We’re currently working on launching a website for the film, but for the time being they can track me down on Facebook or do a search for The Paranormal Diaries film on Facebook. Feel free to send us any messages you have whether that be comments on the film or ideas for locations to investigate. We’re always open to suggestions and love being able to interact with people who are interested in the film.

What’s next for Blaine Duncan?

That’s a great question. This film will get finished by me one way or another. Sure, I’m hoping I can get some money to help financially support the film, but even if I can’t, I care so much about it and my passion for the paranormal that it’s going to be released one way or another. So hopefully next summer you see us release the film to the world and it can gain exposure through social media and we can travel around and show it off. This whole project has really been a dream come true for me and I hope I can keep it up for years to come. Who knows, maybe we’ll do another film and travel around Europe doing the same thing? I’m just happy to have the opportunity to expose my work to the world, and hopefully people will enjoy it and it will give them something to talk about. It seems the paranormal community in general has been at odds with each other, so maybe my film can be something that can bring everyone back together.

Any positive words of advice?

I would tell anyone out there who is reading this to stay focused on whatever your goals and dreams are. If you want to be a professional NFL quarterback, get out there and start throwing some footballs. If you want to be a rock star and make your own music, grab a guitar and start practicing. I wanted to make a paranormal documentary that would be different from anything that had ever been done before. It was my dream to do that and I’ve finally gotten the opportunity to take this head on. My passion and drive to see this thing come to fruition is beyond anything I’ve ever done before. The only person out there who can stop you is you, so don’t be your own worst enemy and make whatever goals you have happen.
